Location: Chico, CA   
Non-Exempt / Full-Time

Reports To: Quality Supervisor   
Work Hours: Mon–Fri, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm (Occasional OT)
Hourly rate: $26.44 - $28.84

Position Summary:

The Quality Technician I supports daily quality and food safety operations through inspection, sampling, testing, documentation, and verification activities. This position plays an important role in ensuring compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and food safety programs while supporting the production of safe, high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine inspections of incoming materials, packaging components, and in-process production to verify compliance with quality specifications.
  • Conduct quality testing including pH, °Brix, temperature, fill weight, vacuum, torque, and sensory evaluations as assigned.
  • Collect product, environmental monitoring, and verification samples in accordance with established programs.
  • Conduct GMP, sanitation, and food safety inspections and document findings.
  • Identify, document, communicate, and escalate non-conforming materials, products, or processes through established quality systems.
  • Assist with product and material hold programs, including the identification, segregation, documentation, and communication of non-conforming materials.
  • Perform routine verification and calibration checks of quality monitoring equipment.
  • Accurately complete quality records, logs, checklists, and electronic data entry.
  • Maintain sample retention inventories, laboratory supplies, and QA documentation.
  • Support traceability exercises, internal audits, corrective actions, and verification activities associated with BRCGS, Organic, Kosher, regulatory, customer, and food safety requirements.
  • Participate in Quality team meetings and support Food Safety, Food Defense, HACCP, traceability, and continuous improvement activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience in food manufacturing, laboratory, or quality assurance preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow written procedures.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Basic understanding of food manufacturing, laboratory practices, and food safety principles.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to requests in a timely manner.
  • Ability to identify issues, exercise sound judgment, and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications and data entry systems.
  • Willingness to learn and develop technical, regulatory, and food safety knowledge.
  • Ability to comply with GMPs, HACCP, Food Safety Plan requirements, and company policies.

Preferred Certifications

  • HACCP
  • PCQI

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform routine inspection, sampling, and testing activities throughout manufacturing and warehouse areas.
  • Ability to work in manufacturing, warehouse, cooler, and outdoor environments.
  • Ability to climb stairs and access production platforms when required.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as business needs require.
